
Clinical Elective/ Internship program for International Students
The Clinical Internship/Elective Program at Hanoi Medical University (HMU) is structured to offer flexibility while upholding high standards of academic rigor and training quality. The program is open to students currently enrolled in Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, or other health sciences–related disciplines who have completed at least their third year of study (or equivalent level of training). The duration ranges from two to six weeks and is available throughout the whole year, subject to departmental capacity and faculty availability.
Participants are required to undertake a minimum of two weeks in each selected specialty to ensure adequate and structured clinical exposure. For placements lasting four weeks or longer, students may elect to rotate between two departments, thereby broadening their multidisciplinary experience in alignment with their academic objectives and professional aspirations.
Department selection

Note: The Department of General Internal Medicine currently offers two specialization: General Internal Medicine – Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine – Respiratory Medicine.
Students are kindly advised to contact the designated coordinator to complete their registration and confirm their preferred specialty.

What to expect
Daily ward rounds with physicians 🩺
Real clinical settings in affiliated teaching hospitals and healthcare institutions.
Structured supervision from experienced medical professionals.
Participate in ward rounds, case discussions, outpatient observation, and clinical skills practice (within scope of training)
Vietnam’s rich culture, cuisine, and healthcare system
Elective fee
The internship fees are as follows:
- USD 120 for 1 week
- USD 200 for 2 weeks
- USD 250 for 3 weeks
- From 4 weeks onward: USD 300/per month
The administrative fee will be: 60USD/per student
Required documents
- One passport-sized photo
- Reference and letter of good standing from the Dean of your medical school
- CV
- Official transcript of examination results
- Immunization records (hepatitis B, tuberculosis, mumps, measles, rubella)
- Personal health insurance with international coverage

- Scanned passport valid for more than 6 months (the page containing personal information and photograph)
VISA
Students are required to obtain an appropriate study visa before commencing their program. The visa will be arranged in the form of a Visa on Arrival (VOA). Kindly note that the applicable visa fee shall be paid directly by the student at the airport upon arrival in Vietnam, in accordance with current immigration regulations.

Program timeline (suggested)
- 6-8 weeks before: Complete the application form and submit required documents via email: nguyenminhduc@hpec.edu.vn
- 4-5 weeks before: Eligible students receive offer letter email and process the payment via bank transfer (USD)
- 1-2 weeks before: Receive instructions email for Orientation
- Day 1: Orientation, verification process, hospital tour
- From week 1 to …: Clinical Elective rotation
- Final week: Feedbacks and certificate (if required)
